February events (and a peak into March)

Dear band and orchestra students and parents,

Here are the upcoming events for the month of February. Friends and family are warmly invited to all of these events. Though the orchestra and concert band events are during the day and are less formal events, it is a wonderful way to see you children hard at work making music in a beautiful setting.

In the clinics our students will perform their songs on stage and be given feed back on their performance from professors. They will also get a chance to try to improve their performance based on what they learned.  

1. Saturday, February 10 we have over 50 students in solo and ensemble festival at West Ottawa HS!

2. Saturday, February 10 the HCHS Symphonic Band at the Jack H. Miller Center for the Musical Arts

2:40 - 3:20 p.m. rehearsal with Holland American Legion Band

6:30 p.m. call time for concert

7:00 p.m. concert

3. Wednesday, February 21 HCHS Symphonic Orchestra at the Jack H. Miller Center for the Musical Arts

10:30 a.m. bus departs HCHS

11:00 a.m. clinic with Dr. Fashun at Hope College

TBA bus back to HCHS

4. Wednesday, February 28 HCHS Concert Band at the Jack H. Miller Center for the Musical Arts

8:25 a.m. meet at Hope College

8:40 a.m. clinic with Dr. Gabe Southard and Battle of the Bands with Unity Christian (not really a battle, but it sounds funner this way)

10:15 a.m. bus back to HCHS

5. There will not be a concert on February 21 or February 26.

6. Florida bound families: March 5 at 7:00 p.m. in the HS auditorium is the date for the Florida Parent and Student Meeting. Please put this on your calendars. We need all Florida bound students and at least one parent at this meeting. Please contact me if you are not able to attend.

Recital night, fundraiser, upcoming concert

Hello band and orchestra parents,

1. Tonight is recital night in the HCHS band/orchestra and choir rooms. Come on out and hear our fabulous musicians in their warm up event for the February 10 solo and ensemble festival. Music, punch, and cookies will be from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., come for 10 minutes or for 3 hours. :)

2. There will be no pep band tomorrow night.

3. Help support the symphonic band and orchestra trip to Florida by heading to Chipotle on Thursday, January 25 between 5 and 9 p.m. 50% of the proceeds will be donated to the HCHS band/orchestra! Be sure to show this flyer on your smartphone, bring a paper copy, or tell the cashier that you are supporting this cause!

4. The Holland American Legion Band invites you for a night of music in Hope College's beautiful Jack H. Miller Center for the Musical Arts at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 10. This 80-plus member band is preparing a special concert highlighting music by David Maslanka and William Schuman. We are also featuring a special guest flute soloist, Dr. Gabe Southard and trombonist Paul Wesselink. The Holland American Legion Band has also invited the Holland Christian High School Symphonic Band to share the concert stage with us for this special evening of music. The concert is free of charge. There will be a freewill offering received. Come join us!

Happy New Year!

Dear band and orchestra students and parents,

I pray that your family has had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Here are some announcements and reminders.

1. Solo and Ensemble participants, make sure you are practicing your piece and sign up for a Winterim coaching session. All solo and ensemble participants who are not taking lessons on their instrument should sign up. If you would like to do a time during a winterim course be sure to first check with your winterim teacher/instructor.

2. We will have pep band on Tuesday (9th) night and Friday (12th) night at 6:30 p.m. at the DeVos Fieldhouse. Pep Band members get in free! Free kick off pizza and pop for our first game on Tuesday. Sign up here for pizza by Tuesday at noon.

3. You are invited to Symphony Night on Saturday, January 13. The cost is $7 per student and this covers cost of the symphony and transportation. We will also stop at Red Robin on our way to the symphony. Sign up here if you would like to go.

4. Solo and Ensemble recital night will be on Monday, January 22. All solo and ensemble participants please sign up for a time slot between 6 and 9 p.m. Here is the signup.

5. Florida bound students be sure to bring in your final payment for the trip during Winterim week if you forgot to do that before Christmas Break.

6. February 10 will be the date for solo and ensemble festival and also that evening the HCHS Symphonic Band will have a joint concert with the Holland American Legion Band.
