May is here! Summer lessons, Tulip Time-ish, and Concerts!

Dear band and orchestra students and parents,

1. It is a great time to think about summer lessons! I am giving lessons this summer and so are many other local specialists on your instrument. The HC Music Boosters is also offering summer lessons scholarships. Send me an email for more information on the scholarships.
To sign up for summer lessons email me or follow this link.

2. Next week Monday during family flex we will practice with the full orchestra. I will claim you, but also be sure you have your music and your instrument. If anyone is finishing up sports COVID testing they can join us as soon as they are done.

3. Next Wednesday morning the concert and symphonic bands will practice at 7:30 a.m. in order to prepare for Wednesday's HC Tulip Time celebration. The HCHS bands will be marching from the middle school, to the high school, and then to Pine Ridge to play for cohorted and distanced HC elementary/middle school students.

4. Next school year's concert dates have been entered into the Band and Orchestra google calendar for your advanced planning. The dates are mostly set and will be finalized by June. You can find the calendar by scrolling down when you arrive at the band/orchestra page on the HCHS website. I make these plans with a little more humility and with an enhanced understanding of my dependance on God and his timing as I plan for the future.

5. Are you interested in a scholarship to help pay for a summer music camp? Ask Mr. VB for more information.

6. Here is info on our upcoming concerts!

You are invited to join the Holland Christian School Orchestras in the HCHS gym on Tuesday, May 18 for their spring concerts! Orchestra Concert, Volunteer and Donation Opportunity, Congratulations, Advanced Planning

Dear band and orchestra students and parents,

I hope you are doing well and staying healthy.
Here are a few reminders and announcements.

1. We are so excited for our orchestra concert on Saturday is at 7:00 p.m. in the HCHS gym! Student musicians should arrive by 6:30 p.m.

2. We look forward to welcoming our concert attendees on Saturday evening. We will have volunteers to check you in so that we are within our 4 guests per performing student limit. Masks are required and we will be leaving plenty of space for social distancing between family groups. There will be an offering bucket at the check in table for donations to help support the music department at Holland Christian.
This concert can also be viewed via livestream at youtube.com/hclive

3. We need volunteers to help us out Saturday evening. Please sign up here if you are willing to help.

4. Congratulations to the Holland Christian High School Symphonic Band and Symphonic Orchestra! These two groups received straight one's at the virtual MSBOA Band and Orchestra Festival. This is the highest possible rating and is an achievement in a normal year, even more so in the midst of a pandemic! Excellent work!

6. A reminder that students are invited to Saturday, April 24 - band/orchestra bonfire, 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. - a local, socially distanced, masked, outdoor, fun event. Sign up here if you are willing to donate items for this evening. Location instructions coming soon.

7. I wanted to pass along some advanced scheduling information for 2022. We are planning a trip for our concert band, symphonic band, and orchestra to Florida with performances at Disney World and are so excited! After so many delays and cancellations this will be a wonderful celebration.
We will hang out in the parks, perform on the Disney Concert Stage, and take part in a workshop where we will record portions of a Disney soundtrack synced to the movie with the help of professional Disney musicians and technical staff.
We are planning on departing Holland on Wednesday, March 30 and wrapping up our trip with a worship service on Sunday, April 3. Our return trip will bring us back into Holland on Monday, April 4. Some families travel to Florida and have their children stay with them at the end of the trip rather than ride the charter bus back to Holland, MI. We have lots more info to come, but thought it might be nice to pencil the date in your calendars.

Thank you!
Mr. VB
