Our Concert and STNA!

Hello band and orchestra students and parents,

I hope you are having a great week and enjoying the cool fall weather! Here are some important announcements and information.

1. Your uniform is ready to go home. Please pick it up this week. It is hanging outside the band/orchestra room.

2. We are looking forward to our band and orchestra concert on Thursday, Nov. 4 at 7:30 p.m. Students will need to be at school by 7:00 p.m. dressed in their uniform with proper shoes. Having the right shoes....this was a challenge for some when we took pictures. :)

3. We are in need of volunteers at our concert to help hand out programs, collect the offering, and serve cookies. Sign up here if you can help.

4. We are looking forward to Swingin' the Night Away next Friday! Our jazz orchestra and jazz combo will play!
SWINGIN’ THE NIGHT AWAY - The Holland Christian Jazz Bands and the Old Timer’s Jazz Band are proud to present the Swingin’ the Night Away in the HCHS cafeteria on Friday, November 5, from 6:45 to 9 pm. Admission is $5, and goes to support the music program at HCHS. New to swing dancing? No worries! Dance instructors will be on hand from 6:45 pm-7:30 pm to teach us the basic steps of swing, so the evening can be enjoyed by novice and experienced dancers alike. Not in the mood for dancing? Come socialize, indulge in some delicious desserts, punch, and enjoy the music of Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington and more.

5. We are in need of volunteers for Swingin' the Night Away...to bring desserts, help with clean up and more. Sign up here if you can help.

6. Sign up for solo and ensemble festival!! This is a great opportunity and I encourage everyone to either play a solo or play in a small group for this event! Sign up here.

Thank you!
Scott

Retreat, band/orchestra pictures and uniform fee info

Hello band and orchestra students and parents,

Here are some new info items and a few reminders!

1. We are kicking off the sub sale, one of our optional individual fundraisers for the Florida trip. Paper copies of this flyer are at school for you to pick up and here is a digital version.

2. We are excited to invite students to our rescheduled retreat Saturday, Oct. 16 from 4:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and are thankful for generous donations that make this possible for your children at no cost. Come enjoy fun, fellowship, and good food!

The retreat will happen just east of Macatawa Legends.  There is not a house on the land, so just look for a tulip flag, someone directing traffic, and two tire tracks in the grass just east of the mailbox at 13811 New Holland Street, Holland, MI 49424. It is actually on the opposite side of the road of the house with that address, but the same side as the address's mailbox (south side of the road).

4. We are taking band and orchestra pictures in concert uniforms on Friday! All orchestra members will need to be at school by 7:05 a.m. on Friday morning so that we can do our full orchestra picture.
Band students will have their pictures taken during their band periods.
-Band and Orchestra guys will need black dress shoes and black socks for their tuxedo and girls will need appropriate footwear for their black dresses. These items are not provided.

5. Each fall band and orchestra students are assessed a uniform fee that covers uniform alterations, repairs, marching shoes and gloves, and dry cleaning. (The shoes and gloves are for band marching uniforms only.) This fee will be due by Friday, October 15. It is $15 for orchestra and $25 for band. Please communicate with me if you are in need of financial assistance. Please designate uniform fee in the memo line of the check. This fee can be mailed to HCHS or placed in the designated envelope in the band/orchestra room.
Additional notes:
-Brass, woodwind, and percussion members of the symphonic orchestra only need to pay the band uniform fee, not both.

6. Each fall students who are using a school-owned instrument are assessed a rental fee of $60 for the year. This fee covers a portion of the cost of repairs and maintenance. Students who switch instruments to help with the balance of the band or orchestra are given a waiver on this fee. Those checks are due on Friday, October 15. Please communicate with me if you are in need of financial assistance. Please designate instrument rental in the memo line of the check. This fee can be mailed to HCHS or dropped in the designated envelope in the band/orchestra room.

Thank you!
