Remember these marching details from the last blog post?

4. Brass players, are you interested in plastic mouthpieces to help make playing on cold mornings a little more comfortable? There are a number of plastic mouthpieces that work very well. There are a number of brands online, I have used Kelly mouthpieces and they work very well, but there are also less expensive options that also might be worth a try.

5. All orchestra members are required to attend our 7:00 a.m. rehearsal on Friday, May 13. We will be preparing for our end of the year concert.

6. Orchestra members will start out their day at the Jack H. Miller Auditorium on Tuesday, May 17 at 8:00 a.m. and will miss 2nd hour so that we can rehearse in the auditorium and do our combined number with the 4th - 12th grade orchestras. There will be a bus to take orchestra students back to school after rehearsal.

7. Are you interested in the Grand Rapids Chamber Music Camp.  This is a day camp for string players ages 8-18, August 8-12.  Teachers include performers and pedagogues from the West Michigan area including members of Grand Rapids Symphony. There could be a crew carpooling from Holland.

Reminders for April and May!

Hello band and orchestra students and parents,

I was so proud of how our kids performed and handled themselves on our Florida trip. They were beautiful representations of the Lord they serve.

1. The symphonic band is performing at Rose Park during our class period tomorrow. The bus will depart promptly at 8:00 a.m. for Rose Park.

2. We are looking forward to our combined choir and orchestra performance of Vivaldi's Gloria on Saturday, April 23, at 7:00 p.m. at Hope College's Dimnent Chapel. All students should arrive at Dimnent Chapel by 6:30 p.m.

3. We will be holding a rehearsal at Dimnent on Friday, April 22 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Dimnent chapel. We will be taking a bus to this rehearsal and then back to HCHS. Parents, if you would like your child to drive to this rehearsal please send me an email indicating this.

4. Just a reminder that the jazz orchestra and chamber orchestra will be taking part in Dazzle (a combined concert of Holland area high schools) on Wednesday, May 11 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are available on the Tulip Time website. We will rehearse there during the school day.

5. In order to prepare for Tulip Time and Memorial Day marching (concert band and symphonic band march together for Tulip Time) HCHS bands will march together on these early mornings. Check out more details and tips for marching rehearsals here.
