Pictures, Retreat, Planting tulips!

Dear band and orchestra students and parents,

I hope you are doing well. Here are some reminders from things we have been talking about in class.

1. Butter Braid and Sub sale forms are due tomorrow. Be sure to also note the dates for you to pick up your orders.

2. It is picture time for all groups on Friday. Your band/orchestra uniform will be at school for you to pick up on Friday morning. Be on time. You need to bring shoes and socks that are dressy and appropriate for wearing with a black tux/dress.

Orchestra: Friday morning 7:00 a.m. is picture time for the full symphonic orchestra which includes all orchestra students and the woodwind/brass/percussion that join the orchestra. We will also take section shots during class.

Symphonic Band pictures will be during class.

Concert Band pictures will be taken during class.

3. Retreat drop off should happen at 5:45 p.m. at:
Camp Geneva Pines
17000 Quincy St.
Holland, MI 49424

We will be dining on the Shores side of camp Geneva so if you arrive at 6:00 p.m. on Friday or 8:30 a.m. on Saturday you may find us all over on the Shores side and not at Geneva Pines. On Saturday morning please plan pick up by 11:00 a.m.

The Sept. 19 blog has the retreat info sheet which includes a packing list. If you get a minute give a special thanks to Mike and Amy Luce, Stacey and Stacy Jackson, Monica Gravenhof, Jessica Westra, Sonya Snyder, and Anita Mulder for chaperoning and helping this event go smoothly.

4. Next week Monday during class the orchestra will be planting tulips and next week Tuesday during class will both bands will plant tulips. Bring warm clothes and clothes that you can plant tulips in. :) This is a fun way for us to give back to a community that gives us so much support. Once again this year we hope to plant all of the tulips along 12th Street and Washington Blvd. and maybe some in Kollen Park.

5. Check out the last blog entry for private lesson scholarships and solo and ensemble sign up. I also posted these in google classroom.

6. Please sign up to help out at our concert with program handing out, offering, and refreshments! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0E4CA9A928AA8-fall

Thanks!
Mr. VB

Fall fun, scholarship opportunities, and solo/ensemble festival sign up!

Dear band and orchestra students and parents,

I hope you enjoyed the beautiful fall weekend. Here are some important announcements and reminders.

1. You will have 2 options for fundraisers for students. These fundraisers are optional and the profit from the fundraisers will go toward each student's cost for the 2024 spring band/orchestra trip to Florida. I know it is a long way off, no commitments need to be made about 2024, but some people have appreciated the chance to get an early start. We have the Butter Braid pastry sale and a sub sale. Here are the forms for these two and a link to order Butterbraid online.

2. We talked about solo and ensemble festival in class last week. Here is more info at this link which you can also use to sign up. This is open to all HCHS band/orchestra students and it is a great way to grow as a musician. You may sign up for no more than 3 events or ensembles.

3. Here is the link to the HC Music Boosters Lesson Scholarship Form.  If you have never had individual lessons on your instrument, it is a great way to grow as a musician and get the subtle tips that make you improve more rapidly. Have you thought about lessons or have already taken lessons, but the cost made you pause or decide not to do lessons? We want to help you thrive as a musician and taking lessons on your instrument is one of the best ways to do this. This is also a great way to prepare for solo and ensemble festival. Please fill this out this week and turn it in by Friday if you are interested.

4. All band members will perform in the pep band on Friday. All band and orchestra students are invited to stop by the band/orchestra room for pizza at 6:00 p.m. The pep band will play pregame music at 6:30 p.m.

5. We are looking forward to our retreat on October 14 and 15. We are still missing a few permission slips and if you haven't already paid, be sure to bring in your $10 this week. More details coming on the retreat soon.

Thanks!
Mr. VB
