March events and planning ahead for Florida next year!

 Hello band and orchestra families!

1. Here is the State Solo and Ensemble Schedule for March 18 at Whitehall HS.

2. Congratulations to the HCHS Symphonic Band and Orchestra who received division 1 ratings for both their performance on stage and for sight reading. This is the highest rating! Way to go!

3. The orchestra is headed to Rose Park during the orchestra period on Wednesday, March 8 to perform for the elementary students. The symphonic band is headed to Rose Park on Tuesday, March 28 during the band period to perform for Rose Park.

4. Band Extravaganza
Come one, come all to the Holland Christian Schools Band Extravaganza for a wonderful night of music on Tuesday, March 21. HC’s 5th grade, 6th grade, Middle School, and High School Bands will perform at the Jack H. Miller Center for the Musical Arts on Hope College’s campus at 7pm. Hear a wide variety of musical styles and sounds and you won’t want to miss the closer, featuring over 200 musicians combined!

5. Swingin' the Night Away
The HCHS music department and jazz ensembles invite you to Swingin’ the Night Away on Friday, March 24, 6:45-9:30pm in the HS Cafeteria. Free dance instructions from 6:45 pm-7:30pm. Enjoy intergenerational fun, dancing, desserts and beverages from 7:30-9:30pm. Tickets are $5 at the door. Enjoy Afro-Cuban influenced music, funk tunes, the blues, and a vocal soloist!

6. I wanted to pass along some advanced scheduling information for 2024. We are planning a trip for our concert band, symphonic band, and orchestra to Florida with performances at Disney World and so excited!

We will hang out in the parks, perform on the Disney Concert Stage, and take part in a fun workshop.

We are planning on departing Holland on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 and wrapping up our trip with a worship service on Sunday, March 31, 2024. Our return trip will arrive back in Holland on Monday, April 1, 2024. Some families travel to Florida and have their children stay with them at the end of the trip rather than ride the charter bus back to Holland, MI. We have lots more info to come and the trip isn't required, but thought it might be nice to pencil in the date on your calendars.

Two additional notes:
1. Holland Christian's official spring break begins on Friday, March 29. Students will be excused for the 27th and 28th.
2. Since this is also Holy Week we will be observing Good Friday with a time of worship Friday evening as a band and orchestra and also celebrating Easter with an Orlando congregation. Families are welcome to join us. If parents would like to pick up their children before church on Sunday and attend another church that is also a possibility.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Mr. VB
