Florida last info and Oratorio Concert coming up!

 Dear band and orchestra students and parents,

I hope you are doing well and looking forward to spring break!

Florida bound students eat healthy and get some good rest in the next few days.

1. In case you were looking for this, here is the parent info packet which includes a packing list and itinerary.  (I do know that a few of you have been packed for months.) If you think Dramamine might be a good idea for you, I encourage you take some before we take off and to pack it in your carry on.

2. Florida bound band/orchestra members, please arrive at the high school at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Head directly to the gym where you can stop in at each check in table to check in your instrument, music folder, uniform, and luggage. We will then gather for prayer in the band/orchestra room and load the buses.

3. In order to encourage wise phone use for students in Florida, we will have students charge their phones in the chaperone rooms at lights-out time. They can use the alarm clock or hotel wake up calls for the morning. We will make sure students have chaperone and nurse phone numbers and room numbers in case they need anything. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

4. All Florida-bound band members should plan to attend a family flex practice on Monday, so that we can rehearse our combined band numbers for the Florida stage.

Oratorio Concert
The Holland Christian High School Choirs and Orchestra invite you to their annual oratorio concert as they perform Franz Joseph Haydn's Creation on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 7pm at Dimnent Chapel, Hope College. (277 College Ave, Holland, MI 49423).

Help needed to make March work!

Hello band and orchestra students and parents,

I hope you are enjoying springing ahead this morning. :)

We are looking forward to a busy March. Here are some areas we could use your help.

1. Band Extravaganza is Wednesday! In order to make sure we have a seat for everyone and because we are expecting a large number of audience members at our concert, we will need to limit families to 3 guests per student participating in the concert. We are planning to live stream this concert. https://www.youtube.com/c/HCLive

2. Please sign up to help out at the Band Extravaganza concert welcoming people, handing out programs, and taking the offering.

3. We are seeking donations of these food items for the Florida trip.

4. We need your help with desserts and making Swingin' the Night Away work. You can sign up here!

5. State solo and ensemble people! Here is a reminder that this is your schedule for Saturday!

6. On Wednesday we will be practicing at Jack H. Miller Center for the Musical Arts at 8:00 a.m. so we need all students to be brought directly to the Jack H. Miller Center for the Musical Arts that morning. We will have a bus to return students to HCHS following the rehearsal.

Our concert in the evening is at 7:00 p.m. and because the HS students should arrive at the Jack H. Miller Center for the Musical Arts by 6:30 p.m.

March Madness!

 Hello HCHS band and orchestra students and parents,

1. Congratulations to symphonic band and symphonic orchestra on their performances the last two days. Both groups received division one rating, the top rating!

2. Please fill out this form if you would like to be a majorette for Tulip Time and Memorial Day Parades. Please complete this form before Saturday evening (March 2).

3. Band Extravaganza is on Wednesday, March 13!

Come one, come all to the Holland Christian Schools Band Extravaganza for a wonderful night of music on Wednesday, March 13. HC’s 5th grade, 6th grade, Middle School, and High School Bands will perform at the Jack H. Miller Center for the Musical Arts on Hope College’s campus at 7pm. Hear a wide variety of musical styles and sounds and you won’t want to miss the closer, featuring over 200 musicians combined!

4. The Symphonic Band will visit Rose Park on Thursday, March 14 during their band period.

5. State Solo and Ensemble Festival is coming up on Saturday, March 16

6. Swingin' the Night Away is on Friday, March 22!

The Holland Christian Jazz Bands and the Old Timer’s Jazz Band are proud to present the Swingin’ the Night Away in the HCHS cafeteria on Friday, March 22, from 6:45-9 pm. Admission is $5, and goes to support the music program at HCHS. New to swing dancing? No worries! Dance instructors will be on hand from 6:45-7:30pm to teach us the basic steps of swing, so the evening can be enjoyed by novice and experienced dancers alike. Not in the mood for dancing? Come socialize, indulge in some delicious desserts, punch, and enjoy the music of Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington and more.
